What Happened in October
Careers in Consulting: Introduction to Case Interviews
On the 4th of October UTSCC held our final Careers in Consulting Workshop, Introduction to Case Interviews!
Students were able to learn all there is to know about consulting interviews, covering need-to-know topics such as profitability, market entry, mergers and acquisitions and market sizing. Additionally, students learnt valuable case frameworks and tips on developing business acumen, as well as quick math formulas to help crack a case!
This last workshop installment also included dynamic live case examples, and resources for finding a case practice partner in our community!
Practice Pitches
Our consultants were fortunate to have been given various opportunities this semester to fine tune their pitches in anticipation of the Consultant Cup. Events such as Workshop 4 focusing on Solution Presentation enabled consultants to get real time, actionable feedback from Alumni, while the EM Pitches and Internal Pitch were valuable experiences in which teams were able to further hone their presentations.
Consultant Workshop Four: Solution Presentation
On the 6th of October, our consultants took part in a Pitching and Presentation Workshop led by Engagement Manager Isabella Napoli. Consultants were provided with tips for their upcoming pitches, as well as how to master Q&As.
Teams were then placed with UTSCC Alumni for two rotations where they were tasked with pitching for 10 minutes and partaking in a 7 minute Q&A. This was a great opportunity for consultants to gain valuable feedback from Alumni representatives, as well as to catch up with them to see how being a part of the Consulting Club has shaped their careers.
We would like to thank our Alumni representatives Debra Onyike, Jan Broodryk, Kate Daine, Tim Wang and Jia Qi Goh for their insightful and actionable feedback that will direct the consultants towards the upcoming Internal Pitch!
Consultant Workshop Four: Solution Presentation
Earlier in the semester, consultants were given their first taste of pitching through presenting to their Engagement Managers, who asked questions and offered tips to their teams to help them further progress both their solutions as well as their overall presentations.
This was a fantastic opportunity for consultants to demonstrate the knowledge they had gained from previous workshops including problem breakdown, solution validation and financials, and the application of these skills to their specific client briefs. Consultants were also able to familiarise themselves with the nature of pitching and delivery, whilst benefiting from the valuable feedback received from their Engagement Managers who had previously participated in the Consultant Program themselves. The mentorship given by Engagement Managers was highly influential in assisting teams to further refine their presentations in time for the more formal Internal Pitch.
Consultant Workshop Five: Internal Pitch
On Thursday the 20th of October, our five consultant teams shared their 10-minute client pitches with us at our Internal Pitch!
Each team pitched their final solutions and undertook a Q&A with a panel of UTSCC executives, receiving final feedback before the Consultant Cup. We would like to congratulate our consultants for their tireless efforts throughout the program!
End of Semester Alumni Drinks (KYHO & WiB)
UTSCC was thrilled to join UTS Women in Business and Kick Your Heels Off to host our End of Semester drinks at The Loft for members and alumni.
This was the perfect opportunity to celebrate the end of a packed semester, with free drinks and food contributing to a lively and relaxing atmosphere in which consultants and members were able to socialise outside of their busy uni schedules and make new friends between societies. We were also delighted to have been joined by many of our Alumni, which gave those who attended the opportunity to expand their networks and engage with new faces.
All in all, our Alumni Drinks was an extremely successful night in which our members were able to both build and renew connections, and we can’t wait till we can hold it again!
Consultant Cup
On the 31st of October, our consultant teams competed for the UTSCC Consultant Cup! Each team pitched their solutions, which they had been working on over the semester, to a panel of our sponsors.
The quality of the presentations impressed both our executive team and the judges! The countless hours poured into each outstanding and polished presentation was on display, and all our consultants should be incredibly proud.
In the end, there was one winner. Congratulations to the Freycinet Experience Walk team, who were able to secure the Cup despite such intense competition! Consisting of: Engagement Manager: Tayla Bondy, and Team Members: Team Leader Abhay Maharaj, Amalie Klemsdal, Luke Nicholson, Nina Seifert, Raphael Beer, and Vanisri Kannan.
An enormous thank you to the PwC Strategy& consultants who offered their time to judge our teams and continue to inspire others to put their best effort forward. We would also like to thank our semester two clients: Freycinet Experience Walk, Batyr, 'Til The Cows Come Home, Envited and SeedCulture for supporting our consultants and providing them with the opportunity to gain invaluable experience.
